April
10th - There is a phenomenon in Chaos Theory commonly
known as "the Butterfly Effect" which states
that the flap of a butterfly's wings in Brazil is enough
to set off a tornado in Texas. The idea behind this
is that there are chains of causes and effects that
are basically infinite and if you change one cause,
no matter how small, it will alter the course of everything
that follows. Whether you go shopping now or in one
half hour will totally change your experience. You will
run into different people. You may meet the love of
your life by leaving at one time, and miss them completely
by leaving at another. And a difference as great as
this could have a profound effect on generations to
come.
We don't really
know what kind of effects we are causing. There are
busloads of tourist that come by and take our pictures.
What will the reaction be to these photos when they
are developed in Japan? Will they talk about us? Will
the stories circulate? We simply don't know the effect
of the ripples. All we can do is put out the most love
and peace that we are able and let the rest take care
of itself.
More friends and
strangers are joining us every day. Today there was
a realization. If we were to come meditate here at the
Civic Center at the same time every day with an open
invitation for all to join, and we were to commit to
being there dependably for at least a couple years,
more and more people would join the circle. It could
really bring major transformation to San Francisco and
could possibly take root in other parts of the world
as well.
Then again,
big ideas often fall flat on their face. All one can
do is give it their best and by doing so, at least there
will be inner transformation in the process. This is
the best we can ever really hope to do. Had we given
up a few days ago when the doubt was so great, today's
realization would never have surfaced. This is the Butterfly
Effect in action, and its ripples continue on.
