Transforming the World... from the Inside-Out..

Peace Shall Overcome

By Brian Frederick Weymouth

Whenever I remember 11 of September

I always look up to the heavens to remember

The non-violence of Mahatma Gandhi

I look on in silence with my heart, so kindly

But sometimes it’s like I feel something’s coming

It’s even like I can even hear that thundering

And that rumbling in that New York City sky

In horror, I hear those people choke in the smoke

And cough, and pitifully cry and screech

In sorrow, I feel awful and begin to cry

But then, I’m awoke with new hope

And stop and quit it and sigh in relief,

Because I can almost hear the angels sing

Then I do not fear danger; not a thing

As I come to yet remember and rejoice

The thundering yet tender voice of Martin Luther King

And I begin to sing

We shall overcome

We shall overcome

My brothers, the time has come

To lie down the guns

The new age has begun

Let’s be the first ones to lie down the guns

Let’s be the first ones to really do something

Do something new

To do a new something

To really use something

Unglue something, called Love

And do something right; release Love

And let loose the white peace doves

Let’s be the first ones to have the courage

To be gone with these terrorists once and for all

In this new dawn, this new era, this dawn of Aquarius

Let’s heed its call and connect

It is on us to hurry us with the speed of a snowball effect

No bomb shall discourage us

His song shall encourage us

The dawn has begun

His song is our sun

And it will shine forever on in our minds

And it will go on to be done

That we shall overcome

We shall overcome

And peace shall overcome

The task of us pacifists

Is to act as love asks of us

We cannot mind the government

With their blind brutish affairs

We got an unsigned covenant

It’s our Divine Duty to care

We gotta take our aim from above

We gotta act in the name of Love

Go with the harmony; go with the flow

Total disarmament is the way to go

I don’t mean to be joking; somebody’s laughing?

It seems too utopian? It can never happen?

Gotta keep hoping; gonna keep rapping

Never gonna give up and say good bye

Even if they come up to crucify

Nothing will never come to nothing, if nobody never tries

It’s time to eat some humble pie, to get civilized

And end this tooth for a tooth and an eye for an eye

This is a truth nobody can deny

But, in truth, nobody never attempts to try

But, if everyone just sighs

And doesn’t give a heck otherwise

Everyone’s gonna get fried

With this high-tech genocide

The government’s sly, but we gotta get wise

They try to cover up with lies, and they try to hide

But the truth’s gonna catch up by and by

The truth’s on our side, and it’s gonna abide

And we’re gonna subside this high-tech genocide

It won’t be long

Just remember his song, each and everyone

We shall overcome

We shall overcome

And peace shall overcome

It’s an open and shut case

For the whole human race

We’re gonna get up and embrace

And we’re gonna erase this utter disgrace

From off the Earth’s bloodied-up face

You think you don’t know?

You don’t know where to begin?

The answer my friend is just blowing in the wind

The answer is blowing in the wind

Open our brains

Unleash the chains

Undermine the shame

It’s time for a change

Can’t press our luck

Can’t pass the buck

Our goal’s clear cut

Gotta get off our butts

And get through with this terror

In this new era

This new age

Diffuse the rage

With a huge parade

A peace march like the world has never seen

Let each heart in the world say, “I have a dream”.

Let’s never let that dream die

And never forget the gleam in the eyes

Of those martyrs who died

Lift our eyes to the sky

Let’s get smarter and try

To know the reason why

Let’s lift up our hearts and sing

Every 11 of September

And let’s everyone remember

Martin Luther King, each and every one

Peace shall be won

Because we shall overcome

We shall overcome

And peace shall overcome

And every 11 of September, let’s everyone remember

Mahatma Gandhi and his heart of kindness up above

His heart that imparts this Timeless Love

They call me a die-hard hippie

And they all try hard to whip me into submission

But I fight hard at my citizen mission,

I’m a pacifist

And they’ll never hear the last of this

We can’t just sit where we are

And forget who are

And select what is easier

In our collective amnesia

It’s the hour to decide

And use that power inside

How? Is the question you put on to me?

Don’t bow to the pressure of conformity

Don’t crowd with the rest in great quantity

Nor just allow what’s best for our economy

And then just give in with the rest

With their darn flustering and darn blustering

To just invest in what is best for the darn arms industry

You think you just don’t know where to begin?

The answer my friend is just blowing in the wind

Just bowing in the wind

Go with the harmony and go with the flow

Total disarmament is the way the wind blows

The way the wind blows

Total disarmament is the way the wind blows

Everybody knows

Just follow our nose

If everybody grows

Then everybody knows

Like the Dalai Lama

To follow up our karma

With the Law of Dharma

Each and every one

Let’s cease with the guns

Peace shall be won

And we shall overcome

We shall overcome

And peace shall overcome

Peace shall overcome
